Linnets lose 3-0 in their first away game of the season.

Alfreton 3 v Kings Lynn 0.

Have to say I’m a tad surprised and indeed disappointed in todays score line.  Not so much the result as grabbing points on the road is never easy.

After witnessing last weeks fine display against Warrington I thought two things.  1.  We looked a team full of goals and 2. We looked decent at the back.

AL  has put a good pre season into his squad so to get stuffed 3-0 by a part time outfit is somewhat surprising.

Good opportunity to get things back on track as soon as Tuesday.  Hopefully todays result won’t have much affect on the gate..

Be interesting to hear AL’s interview and get a grasp on what went so wrong today.
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

Tuesdays visitors, Rushall Olympic are yet to gain a point this season, and like Lynn, lost 3-0 away today. You couldn't wish for a better game to have the opportunity to return to winning form.

I listened to the excellent commentary which suggested that the Alfreton game plan, of giving Lynn little or no time on the ball, worked to.perfection.

Lakey in edp not very complimentary saying Lynn was not recognisable from team in the opening game of the season and we were outmuscled.Lakeland saying he knew exactly what game would be like and the threats they had but his team didn't stand up to them.

Didn't stand up to them...doesn't  look good in the fight ahead in the league.

Knowing what was coming down the road at you and getting players to stand up to it is another thing.  Maybe AL has leant something about certain players that perhaps surprised him.   The change he made  in bringing  in Coulson was to cope with balls being loaded into our box.

If AL ain’t happy with certain players maybe that will be apparent in Tuesday night’s starting 11.  He has a decent size squad so no excuses there.

Very disappointing result... expected more fight from the Linnets squad than we had today.  Hopefully Tuesday night will be changed team who can fight for the club than we had today.

It's always a physical scrap at Alfreton. In past seasons we have had the height and physical presence of Crowther or the warrior like MC Cauley........even with those characters it was usually no better than a point and we usually came away with injuries or suspensions.. it is almost a unique challenge and our back line isn't the tallest or youngest around. Hopefully we won't come up against many similar sides this season

Don’t know these players yet, but the selection looks top-heavy with defenders as usual,  That always means the opponents spend far more time attacking us than vice-versa.  Hope I’m wrong, but we only appear to have had about 4 attacking players on the pitch.

Had a listen to AL’s post match interview and Billy Heath’s as well.   Looks like the battle was won in the changing rooms before the match.

Hi Dilly. I have to say I agree with you. We seemed to set up to try and keep them at bay, rather than impose our attacking style on them. I am not sure our defence is good enough to go away and try to stifle....our strengths seem to lie in our forward players. If we are playing a true footballing side, then Cody Johnson protecting a back 4 works, but where he is by passed by lump football, then it all rests on the centre backs. Scarborough at home last year was a good indication of how we can impose our style going forward, but are exposed if we sit off and let teams come at us.

Will be interesting to see on Tuesday if AL reverts back to a 4 that performed so well v Warrington or stick with a 5 that got over ran at Alfreton.    Has to be back  on the front foot against a team who haven’t gained a point yet.

I enjoyed both interviews and thought that AL was.up front in his assessment of the performance but Heath's mention of such as 'desire, determination, domination, energy and full time' very much resonated.
