Just seen the goals on the Alfreton twitter site. They seem pretty soft particularly the 2nd where their guy runs between two Lynn players without a challenge being made and the 3rd where somehow our defenders including Gold I think miss a direct throw in ........very disappointing

I've seen more discipline and awareness in a Fryatt and Back team!

Have to feel for AL.  Was rightly of very critical of the squad when he came in so has spent the summer getting a squad together that more reflected him and his ideals.  Seemingly with the size of the squad this season he has been well back by Joe and SC.   Opening game must have delighted him and made him think he was really into something.

So to see that performance and result in Saturday must have really concerned him and have 2nd thoughts about certain players.

Let’s hope that display was a one off as we don’t want to become a soft touch for any team we play who just load balls into our box and out battle us.
What if the Hokey Cokey really is what it’s all about ?

I can understand the odd dismal performance from any team half way through a season but not the 2nd game when everyone should be fresh and really up for it

Agreed. I feel that the management team has recruited really well. The missing link may be a 25 year old towering centre half with pace(seem to remember we had one some time ago). I do wonder whether we lack a commanding presence at the back now, given that JC is coming towards the end of a brilliant career and given that Jones for all his good work behind the sticks, isn't one to come charging out for crosses.

What appeared to have been missing at Alfreton was character rather than ability?

We were set up to defend which isnt our  game with the players we have now. Not a single sub was a forward . We should let opposition worry about us.

Value for money....now that is a novelty! They operate on gates averaging around 500. How can they offer such value for money? Maybe they are a proper rather than plastic community club?

i expect the reason its £10  is that there are several  Clubs round that way  Matlock , Belper  and Buxton   who are roughly the same standard  so they compete for the same supporters.

£15 is plenty for the "stadium" you have to watch their "anti-football" at......surprised they get as many as they do!

I was speaking to someone from Alfreton on way out of the ground and he said he only goes a few times a season as he doesn't enjoy their style of football. They also have a branch of Nottingham Forest supporters there.

(Their way of playing gets results though, no sour gates as we were awful on Saturday)

:scarf:hope the other clubs in this league don’t adopt this style of play too much. We weren’t able to deal with it last season and got caught out.  M

With our back three having an average age of about 33 we're not going to play a high line so we invite other teams onto us by defending our own box which in turn leaves massive gaps between the thirds
