King's Lynn 10 Raunds 1
1st January 2011
ANYONE who had doubts about Lynn's title credentials going into the New Year should start thinking again after this rout.
Town simply blew away visiting Raunds with a breathtaking display of attacking football in their first home game for more than ten weeks.
And the final scoreline was made even more significant by the fact that Lynn had only played once in the last five weeks due to the cold snap. Raunds had no answer to their hosts, who hit the ground running from the very start, with six goals in
the first half.
New signing Ross Watson lined up in the centre of defence, while Chris Bacon had to settle for a place on the bench, alongside Gino Livoti and Ryan Fryatt. Midfielder Danny White was absent due to a bout of flu.
It was the Robbie Harris show in the first half as the striker notched his third hat- trick of the season in the first 45 minutes.
Further goals arrived from Kieran Doherty, Jack Defty and Jamie Thurlbourne as Lynn stormed into an unassailable 6-0 lead at the interval.
The second-half began in similar fashion as the Linnets poured forward in numbers. Defty added his second shortly after the restart, an own goal made it 8-0, before substitute Bacon marked his recent return to the club with a late brace.
The visitors replied with a second half effort from Sam Johnson.
Perhaps the unluckiest player not to get on the scoresheet during a one- sided 90 minutes was Steve Spriggs.
Spriggs, who along with Harris, were the chief tormentors in the first period, missed a string of chances in front of goal.
The margin of nine goals bettered Lynn's previous best
United Counties League result, which was a 10-2 victory over S&L Corby back in 1947.
