FIELDING the same team as that which had won the points at Doncaster the previous week, Lynn were in match-winning mood on Saturday when they took two valuable Midland League points from Worksop at he Walks with a 6-1 boost to their goal average,
Although play was fast with both teams moving the ball quickly on a firm, well grassed pitch, the initial fire soon faded from both teams. Worksop were keen fighter, but their lively forward line, with a very dangerous right wing, rarely penetrated a home defence which covered up very well.
Young Maurice Valentine gave a capable performance in the Lynn goal. He has settled down well in the side, his confident and intelligent play revealing that he has greatly improved since joining the club.
In the opening stages the game looked like being a closer struggle than it actually was; particularly as Lynn had only drawn when they played Worksop earlier in the season. The home side settled down. however, but not before they had narrowly escaped conceding a goal.
It was Valentine who averted goals during a period when Worksop were pressing strongly. Worksop inside- right Dean fastened on to the ball and slammed in a shot which the! goalkeeper did well to push over the bar. Then from the resultant corner Carter drove the ball goalwards but Valentine made another good save.
Lynn then began to look a little more dangerous in Etta& and the scoring was opened in the 20th minute when Bunn deceived goalkeeper Wilson with a long lob Into the goalmouth which BLOOMER headed home. Worksop had no chance to recover, from this blow before Lynn were pressing again and the lively RYDER ran on to a forward pass from Bloomer to make the score 2-1.
Dean had a good opportunity to reduce the arrears for Worksop but. Valentine was well positioned to save. The most "goal-worthy" attempt of the match came soon after when Ryder headed against the bar and then did a hop step and jump followed by an acrobatic leap to kick the ball over his head and back into the goalmouth. only for Wilson to save.
Worksop were by no means out of the picture and after a number of valiant efforts, most of which petered out before they could become really dangerous, they scored three minutes from half-time when RHODES ran on to a nice cross from Friel on the left
Supporters were still drinking their tea at the canteens when BLOOMER further consolidated Lynn's lead with a well taken goal in the second minute of the second, half. Receiving a forward pass from Bunn he I cut in from the left and fired into the net through Wilson's legs.
Despite the fact that Worksop were struggling hard Lynn went still further ahead when BLOOMER notched his third goal from a good centre by Morris
RYDER put the score to 5-1 when he lobbed the ball over Wilson's head in the 67th minute.
It was a pity he did not do as well with the penalty he was called upon to take a short while later, after Ward had been brought down by Mallinder. Instead he sent the ball straight to Wilson.
Todd made amends in the 76th minute when he scored with a nicely placed shot well out.
