Harlow Town 2 King's Lynn 1
4th January 1982
A NIGHTMARE of a start ruined Lynn's chances in Monday's FA Trophy replay.
Keith Rudd raised the visitor's hopes with an early effort that skimmed just
wide, but disaster struck soon after centre forward Paul Chapman limped off in
the 11th minute.
Keeper Mick Drewery never looked like reaching a cross from the left and
Bobby
Wiles looped a header over him and Into the empty net.
Four minutes later Drewery was at fault when he sent a weak goal kick straight
to John Mackenzie. This forced Richard Johnston into desperate measures and he
fouled the Harlow forward on the edge of the penalty area which earned him a
booking and from the free-kick
Alan Carrington hit a shot of such force that It
bounced out of the net before the keeper could move.
Drewery made some amends soon afterwards by saving well from Pask and Lynn at
last began to find their form.
Johnson forced the Harlow keeper to a good save after running from near the
half-way line and they came even closer in the 40th minute when Rudd's clever
pass inside the full back sent Burrows clear and his cross was put just over by
Adams.
Wiles missed a golden chance to put Harlow further ahead just before the break,
shooting wide after rounding Drewery.
The rest of the game then belonged to Lynn.
Johnston pulled a goal back after 58
minutes, hooking home a low shot through a crowd of players following a corner.
Adams was a constant danger with his shooting power and he sent several efforts
whistling just past
the Harlow goal.
Craig Thompson looked like equalising five minutes from time after a mistake in
the Harlow defence, but keeper Paul Kitson came out to smother his shot.
Rudd said later: "We went out and made two bed mistakes early on and could not
pull the game back. We had so many chances with only the keeper to beat, but it
seemed that we were destined not to win it."
