Blyth Spartans 2 King's Lynn 4
4th October 2008
The Linnets came back from two goals down on Saturday to register their first-ever away win in the Blue Square North.
In a see-saw open game, Mark Peters and Scott Mitchell got their first goals for the club.
The first ten minutes were even, but Lynn went behind on 14 minutes.
The lively Robert Dale won a corner off Peters, which Andy Wright took.
Wright had a second go at a cross which Chris McCabe headed home.
Gary Brown nodded a downward header wide from a Wright corner.
Spartans doubled the lead on 19 minutes when Simon Weaver gave away a foul.
The free-kick by skipper Gareth Williams took a deflection off the wall, which wrong-footed Lynn keeper Scott Howie.
Lynn's first effort on goal came on 25 minutes when Mitchell fired straight into keeper Gareth Powell's arms.
Mitchell laid the ball off to Joe Francis, who centred for a Jack Defty header to hit the woodwork.
The Walks outfit replied when Adam Smith won the ball in midfield and was fouled near the touchline.
Francis swung the ball to the back post and Peters headed into the net from close range.
The improving Francis also set up the equaliser.
He combined with Jack Defty to feed Frew on the right, who cut in and sent a tremendous shot into the right-hand corner of the net.
Frew nearly diverted the ball into his own net, Howie smartly saving; while Francis shot wide when he had just the keeper to beat.
Blyth came out strongly after the break and Dale, looking offside, raced through but did not control the ball, and Howie gathered it.
Dale flashed one past the post and then had an effort headed off the line by Greg Crane.
Lynn then got on top, Turner on for the ineffective Julian Joachim and scoring with his first touch. Turner stuck his foot out and converted a cross from Francis, who had beaten his full-back.
Smith fed Francis, who tried a lob but sent it straight into the stomach of Powell.
The game was made all but safe on 72 minutes. Turner and Frew engineered a ball which Jack Defty chased, recovered and back-heeled over to Mitchell who scored from 25 yards into the right-hand corner of the net.
