LINNETS have magnificently managed their highest finish for 16 years by holding on to third place despite losing on Saturday.
This was a superb achievement for a club which was in danger of going out of business halfway through the season.
Former Lynn boss Gary Mills did them a favour when his Tamworth side beat Weymouth.
It was somewhat of an anti-climax to the season, with the game being settled by a seventh-minute own goal from centre-back Craig Clark, who Ironically has been the most improved player of the season.
He decided to deftly lob Chuck Martini when a simple back-pass would have done.
Despite dominating the second half, Lynn endured an afternoon of frustration on a bone-hard bobbling pitch. Zeke Rowe came the closest, hitting the bar after a mazy run in the 57 minute.
Then the striker, who dyed his hair blond, had a close-range effort magnificently blocked by keeper Maurice Munden with five minutes left.
Adie Hayes had a first half overhead kick tipped over. Paul Raynor had the ball in the back in the net from a free-kick, but. the referee was not ready.
"We could have been out there all day and not scored," said Linnets manager Tony Spearing. "I'm delighted to get third. We were two points ahead going into the game, the line's up and were third. ,
"We fulfilled all expectations, I settled for mid-table. Everyone knows the players were on their knees. I've been here five years and the last seven months have been the hardest."
A calf injury to Kristian Jones meant a late call-up for youth team forward Chris Bacon, who came on with ten minutes left for his first team debut.
Spearing revealed that Clark and Rowe had re-signed, which means his team building plans for next season are well on the way to completion.
Glen Fuff was named supporters' player of the player - picture in Friday's special review of the season feature.
