King's Lynn 5 St Ives Town 1
5th November 2011
KING'S Lynn Town boss Gary Setchell was full of praise for his players after they ended St Ives' winning streak and unbeaten record on the road with a five-star showing at The Walks.
"I said about using last week as a platform to build on and today I think we did that against a very good St Ives side.
"Today was right up there with one of the best performances of the season.
"At 3-1, I thought the game was in the balance a little bit because we weren't defending the first ball as well as I would have liked, but some of our passing and movement was first class at times."
Recent signing Rob Hughes - handed his first start in a Linnets shirt - again brought a calmness and a touch of class to the Lynn midfield.
Jamie Thurlbourne had an early effort ruled out for offside but in the 18th minute he was on hand to deliver an inch-perfect corner for Dan Buhlemann to head home his first goal of the season.
The lead was doubled two minutes later with a trademark free-kick from Thurlbourne which flew into the net from 30 yards.
With two minutes of the first half remaining, Jordan Yong's darting run found Luke Thurlbourne who switched play to Spriggs to tap into an empty net.
The Saints' only goal came on 51 minutes when Conor Washington was awarded a penalty.
Linnets goalkeeper Alex Street brilliantly saved the initial attempt by pushing it onto his post but Scott Fielding was on hand to fire home the rebound.
Danny Beaumont added Lynn's fourth, from a free-kick on the edge of the box, after 64 minutes and 12 minutes later Lynn had a further goal disallowed for offside - this time Luke Thurlbourne being denied by the sight of the flag.
Substitute Robbie Harris completed the Lynn nap-hand with five minutes remaining.
