King's Lynn 3 Cambridge United 0
6th March 1985
THE LINNETS reached one goals milestone and just missed another as downhearted Cambridge United were beaten on Wednesday in the East Anglian Cup.
When Chris Watts slammed the Linnets into a 33rd minute lead, neatly doing past one defender and hitting a right foot shot across the keeper, it was the 50th goal in cup competition 'the Linnets have scored this season.
And that put them on a total overall of 97 when the league goals are added.
But although the bustling play of Martin Twigger in the second Half cause United plenty of problems only two more goals came which leaves the Linnets one short of a century.
Twigger was involved in the second goal in the 68th minute, Exchanging passes with Main Coupe and then putting in the centre which Kevin Ready headed (yes, headed!) towards the net. Although the keeper blocked this effort, he was powerless when Ready followed in to make sure.

And just four minutes later it was Twigger and Ready who put Colin Foster through and the manager then set up the easiest of chances for Mario Ippolltto who hail moved .forward in support.
Cambridge, bottom of the Third Division, needed caretaker manager John Cozens to make up their team which has been badly hit by injuries. They could have conceded more goals in the closing minutes, but keeper Dean Greygoose saved from Twigger and Ready.
A. solid enough game by the Linnets, but we will avoid the cliche "shining under the new floodlights."
In the area final, Lynn will play the winners of the match between Soham and Wisbech due to be played later this month.
Lynn: Claxton, Mercer, Wood, Adams, Easthall (sub 1ppolitto 45 mins); Watts, Foster, Hines; Ready, Twigger, Coupe.
Attendance: 340.
