Trowbridge 4 King's Lynn 1
6th April 1985
STRUGGLING Trowbridge turned the form book upside down with an easy victory over Lynn on Saturday.
The key to success was their ability to beat the Lynn offside trap with almost every attack they made although the Linnets
considered that the linesmen's flag could have been raised when the second and
fourth goals went in.
Time and again Trowbridge's twin strikers Bryan Wade and Paul Derrick used their pace to get clear and only some alert
goalkeeping by Andy Claxton, who had to race out of his goal on numerous occasions to kick, dribble and even head the ball clear, kept the score down.
Lynn were a goal behind after only two minutes when Ian Wood upended Derrick in the penalty box and
Ieavn John scored easily from the spot.
They were back on level terms ten minutes before the break when the Trowbridge defence failed to clear la cross from Martin
Twigger and. Martin Coupe scored with a low drive from ten yards.
Lynn enjoyed their best spell just after the break and Steve Hines should have done better than head over the bar when he was left unmarked on the six yard box.
But two goals in two minutes ended Lynn's hopes. In the 63rd minute Marcus Bray beat Wood and centred for Wade to head in from close range: two minutes later their defenders gave Barry Thomson all the time he needed to collect a left wing cross from Wade to score his first goal of the season from close range.
Lynn! brought on Fred Easthall. for the disappointing Kevin Ready in the 75th minute and for a while it looked as if they might stage a late recovery, but in the 84th minute Derrick beat the offside trap again and
crossed for Wade to tap home a simple) fourth goal for Trowbridge.
Two minutes from time Claxton was booked for pulling down Derrick outside the penalty area after the home striker
had again left the offside trap in ruins.
