Weymouth 1 King's Lynn 1
6th November 1999
TWO superb first half strikes lit up a game as Lyndon Rowland marked his Linnets debut with a fine goal.

But Stuart Heath, who scored the winner in last year's fixture, came back to haunt Lynn with an equaliser on one of Linnets' bogey grounds which has seen them win once.

Lynn boss Gary Mills said: "We deserved three points. I'm happy with a point a long way from home but disappointed we came away with only one.

"We should have been 3-0 up in the first half. They had one shot in 45 minutes. We took the game to them.

"Lyndon had a magnificent debut. He played very well. working very hard, scored an excellent goal and held the ball up."

Neither Weymouth nor Lynn deserved to lose this match. In the early stages Linnets went for it and Weymouth's debutant keeper Danny Potter, on loan from Exeter, had some anxious moments.

Lynn went ahead on the half hour with a well-struck effort from the threatening Rowland. He latched onto Mills' long ball, beat two men and his left foot shot from the edge of the box kept low and left Potter well beaten.
Within minutes Linnets almost scored a second. Chris Cleaver's shot dipped and Potter did well to reach back and turn the ball over the bar.

However on the stroke of half-time Heath hammered the ball into the top corner from 25 yards, leaving Chuck Martini helpless.
The Terras went so close in the opening minute of the second period when Mark Gammon sent in a surprise long shot and Steve McGinty headed off the line with Martini nowhere to be seen.

After McGinty's rescue act, the game settled into an evenly matched slog in the cold.
Emeka Nwadike and Rowland always looked sharp and Weymouth were glad to have captain and former England schoolboy international Alex Browne often on hand to thwart them.
Late on Martini did well to smother a low shot from Heath and keep out a free-kick Simon Browne. Lynn: Martini, Mills, McGinty, Dakin, Fuff, Spearing, Turner, Nwadike, Cleaver (Wilson 80), Rowland, Marsden. Subs (not used) Puttnam, Clark.
