King's Lynn 0 Kidderminster Harriers 0
7th November 1973
LYNN DEFENDER. John Richardson may be out of, action until mid December after breaking his collarbone during this goalless Southern League draw at The Walks on Wednesday.
Richardson was in collision with a Kidderminster forward midway through the first half, but he continued playing until the interval.
Player-manager Frank Wignall said yesterday: "John is going to see his own doctor and
I have not yet heard how bad the break is. But it could be that he will not be playing again for another six weeks."
Commenting on the game, Wignall said: "This was after the Lord Mayor's show. It sometimes happens that you put up a grand performance like we did on Saturday and then the next time out it is a flop.
"Kidderminster came looking for a point and they got it without too much trouble.
"We should have scored from first half chances, but after that we came to a full stop when we reached their penalty area."
There was a fair amount of action in the opening ten minutes, with Kidderminster winger Colin Taylor getting in a low snap shot, then at the other end Keith Rudd split open the defence to put Malcolm Lindsay clear but he mis-kicked.
After this the game settled into the pattern of Kidderminster surrendering the mid-field but stopping Lynn on the edge of the penalty area. When the Linnets did break through Tony Wilcox made a reflex save to keep out Rudd's header, then a David Brooks shot was blocked.
Lynn took time to settle after the interval changes which meant Lindsay going to full back and Ray Elliott taking over upfront. There was little danger of Kidderminster scoring against the tight Lynn defence in which Painter, Wright and Smith had excellent games throughout, but the visitor's were
packing their defence at the first hint of danger.
A couple of runs by Wignall almost broke the deadlock, but the goal would not come.
