Taunton 3 King's Lynn 0
8th March 1980
STRUGGLING Taunton snapped up two goals in the last five minutes to gain a flattering win over Lynn in the Southern League on Saturday.
Despite being a goal down at half time, the Linnets were always in with a chance until Eric Carvill struck by scoring both Taunton's late goals. Lynn found it tough going in the first half as they battled up the slope and against a gale-force wind.
It was no surprise when Taunton went ahead in the 17th minute when Steve Hole and Martyn Britten combined to set up Cliff Myers who scored with an easy chance.
A mistake by Hole let in Duncan Wiles, but the Lynn striker did not have the pace to leave his markers and he was quickly shut down.
And Wiles had a great chance in front of goal midway through the first half but defender Terry Hodge robbed him just as he was about to shoot.

There was little to choose between the sides and Lynn gradually got on top in the second half. But their finishing was poor although Taunton keeper Brian McAuley was kept on his toes.
Jimmy Wilson provided the best shot of the match, in the 76th minute, hammering the ball just over the crossbar from 30 yards out.
And only a minute later Dave Singleton and Eddie Ahearne got Lynn's defence in a tangle with a swift raid, but Ahearne wasted his cross after the pair had run 40 yards.
Carvill snapped his first goal in the 85th minute when he broke through after a muddle in defence and slammed the ball past Phil Ringwood.
Three minutes later he scrambled the ball home on the far post after a cross by Britten had hit the crossbar.

Taunton: McAuley, Hodge, Parsons, Myers, Edwards, Sherwood, Singleton, Hole. Ahearne, Britten; sub Wescott.
