Worcester City 3 King's Lynn 1
8th April 1977
A CROWD of nearly 3,000 watched this game on Good Friday - the highest at Worcester this season.
They saw the champions receive the Southern Division One (North) trophy before the start.
But Lynn responded to the atmosphere and nearly silenced the crowd in the 13th minute when David Lill sent in a centre which Trevor Moden met with a header which hit the bar. Two minutes later Worcester took the lead through Nigel Bunt. He sent in a looping header over Trevor Farrow after Tudor had two shots charged down.
Freddie Easthall was denied an equaliser in the 30th Minute when Taylor made. a good save, but in the next minute the Lynn forward netted.
He neatly shot home after a centre by Algar beat the City defence and Taylor was caught out of position.
Worcester replied with a goal at the other end straight from the re-start. Williams on a heading duel with Wright unfairly protested the Lynn defenders and the ball ran to Roger Shaw who made no mistake from close range.
In the second half City had much of the play, but good saves by Farrow prevented further goals until the 85th minute.
Williams made a break down the middle with Lynn appealing for offside and his pass left Shaw with the scoring chance:
So Worcester continue on their unbeaten run; but the Linnets won praise from the home side for their performance and the 3-1 scoreline did not do justice to Lynn's efforts.
Changes in the Lynn lineup were necessary because of an injury to defender Nigel Saywood and Malcolm Lindsay moved to full back.
Lynn: Farrow; Moore, Lindsay, Wright, Seary; Lill, Richards, Moden, Rudd, Easthall.
