Bromsgrove Rovers 1 King's Lynn 0
8th September 1998
A poor first half display from the Linnets cost them dearly in the Midlands.
Toby Spearing's men struggled in the first 45 minutes and deservedly found themselves a goal down.
They were more positive in the second period but were unable to unlock the Rovers' defence which included former Everton and Aston Villa centre half Derek Mountfield.
Ironically, despite their disappointing first half performance, Lynn had their best chance after 20 minutes.
Worrell Sterling fired a low ball across the box and Ian Stringfellow bit a first-time effort that was superbly saved by Derek Dudley.
The only goal came after 37 minutes. A Bromsgrove corner was punched out by Roberts but Steve Ulfig was first to the loose ball and he drilled home a low shot.
Eight minutes into the second half, Coren Hardy replaced Sterling. It allowed Stringfellow to sit behind the front two and he seemed more effective from that position.
