King's Lynn 3 Kempston 0
8th October 2011
THE Linnets strolled into the next round of the League Cup - and a home tie against Raunds - with a competent display against AFC Kempston at The Walks.
Goals from Nelson Moreira, Stephen Spriggs and Luke Thurlbourne handed the Linnets a comfortable 3-0 victory and a clean sheet - much to the delight of manager Gary Setchell.
Setchell said: "Today was a pleasing result, we made the changes from midweek and we tried to play football and do what we talked about, although our final ball did let us down at times.
"I felt we gave the competition the respect it deserves. The lads worked hard and I think we scored three fantastic goals.
"It's another game we have won and it takes us nicely into the Sleaford game on Tuesday."
The Linnets made four changes from the midweek win at Deeping Rangers.
Matthew Hails deputised in goal and there were also starts for Dan Buhlemann, Ryan Fryatt and Ben Coe, who played in a central midfield role alongside the busy Luke Thurlbourne.
After a dull first half, in which both Nelson Moriera and Danny Beaumont went close for Lynn, the game came to life.
The deadlock was broken on the hour-mark when Portugese frontman Moriera made it three goals in as many games.
Moriera netted with a curling shot after being played in by Jordan Yong.
Kempston responded with a brief spell of pressure and the impressive Hails pulled off a string of fine saves in a five-minute purple patch for the visitors.
The Linnets gave themselves much-needed breathing space in the 76th minute when Spriggs, who had a quiet game, burst clear before slotted past Conway to double the home side's advantage.
Lynn then sealed the game on 83 minutes when Luke Thurlbourne played a neat one-two with Beaumont and finished with the cheekiest of back-heels.
