King's Lynn 3 Bath City 1
8th December 1997
The combination of strike trio Steve Williams, Lee Hudson and Brett McNamara has taken time to gel.
But in this game they showed just how dangerous they can be when it does.
McNamara pounced twice to take his season’s tally to nine while Williams scored an absolute gem.
Hudson played his part in two of the goals and should have got on the scoresheet himself.
McNamara put the Linnets ahead on 26 minutes.
McNamara and Hudson linked up well before the ball went wide to the excellent Matthew Wright.
His cross fell onto the head of Rob Skidmore who lost his bearings and nodded towards his own goal. McNamara pounced but saw his shot superbly tipped away by Hervin.
Richard Skelly picked up the loose ball and swung in another cross, this time McNamara made no mistake as he picked his spot in the bottom corner.
McNamara came close to adding a second when heading over another good Wright cross.
Home keeper James Hollman had a couple of reckless moments in the first half. He had a rush of blood early on and was caught well out of his goal but Mike Davis’ attempt was hooked clear by Jason Pascoe.
He was then caught in no mans land when Colin Hoyle’s back header fell short but Graham Colbourne’s lob went over.
Hollman did do well when he made a good save with his legs to deny Davis just before Lynn’s second goal.
On the hour William’s effort effectively sealed the points for Lynn.
Hudson lifted the ball over the defence for Williams to turn and lift a perfect 25 yard left foot lob into the top corner.
McNamara then outpaced his marker but saw his attempt blocked by Hervin before making it 3-0 on 82 minutes.
Williams slid a neat ball behind the back four and McNamara coolly slotted home.
Bath substitute Paul Hirons hit the post before grabbing a consolation five minutes before the end.
Hudson then missed his opportunity to find the net - slicing wide from Skelly’s cut back.
