Four goals and plenty of flashpoints, both on and off the pitch, led to a breathless encounter between the top two, in which Steve Spriggs was the two-goal matchwinner for Lynn.
Linnets boss Gary Setchell hailed his heroes, saying: "It was a real blood-and-thunder game and I felt in recent years it was a game we'd have definitely lost.
"We'd have been over-run, outpowered and bullied � but no one is going to bully this set of players. We've got big strong men and Spriggsy, who's not such a big man, can produce bits of magics like he did.
"Coalville are a very good side, they'll be there or thereabouts, but we had another very special night. That's three what I consider very, very good performances at home and we've laid down a �we're a good side marker' down on Tuesday."
Setchell added: "I said to Neil (Fryatt, assistant manager) with 15 minutes to go, �they're going to score or we're going to hit them on the break'.
"The game had that feel about it. We were putting bodies on the line, putting blocks in and people were putting their heads in where some people wouldn't put their feet.
"But we looked like, with the pace out wide, we could get at them and it was a great second goal by Spriggs.
"On the balance of play, Coalville passed the ball very well and we had to switch our system to go and match them to go three in midfield because we went 2-0 up they sort of bossed the game.
"But if you're talking about effort and desire and wanting to win the match then you look no further than our boys again as it got us through."
The Linnets made the perfect start in front of a huge four-figure crowd � their best of the season by more than 400 � by taking the lead after eight minutes. Russell Dunkley played the ball across the box for Spriggs, who also hit the woodwork later in the half, to smash the ball into an empty net.
Lynn were in dreamland five minutes later when a brilliant turn by Jason Turner saw him lose his marker in the box before side-footing the ball past Sean Bowles.
Coalville reduced the arrears with their first real attack of any note when Robbins burst clear of the Lynn offside trap before beating Danny Gay.
The goal breathed fresh life into the Leicestershire visitors who almost equalised mid-way through the half as Cameron Stuart saw his effort brilliantly scrambled off the line by Phil Gulliver.
Midfielder Dan Quigley should have restored Lynn's two-goal advantage going into the interval but he somehow contrived to sky the ball over from six yards out after a slick move involving both Dunkley and Spriggs.
The half-time whistle saw Coalville's Jerome Murdock appear to blast the ball towards the watching Lynn fans in the crowd to stoke the already-tense atmosphere as the players left the field. Coalville scorer Robbins had to be restrained by his own players from confronting Lynn fans as the teams took to the field for the second half.
Lynn were almost caught napping as Callum Woodland's shot came back off Gay's right post. The Walks outfit were forced to soak up long spells of Coalville possession in the second half before Dunkley had an effort ruled out for offside.
The game was wrapped up as a contest two minutes from time when Spriggs burst clear before firing past Bowles to send the home supporters into delirium.
More angry exchanges involving Coalville players erupted as they left the pitch, while their counterparts deservedly soaked up the applause from the home faithful.
