Grantham Town 0 King's Lynn 0
11th September 1972
Lynn once again failed to find the net, but they can count this performance at Grantham on Monday as one of their best Southern League performances of the season.
Grantham, he former Midland League champions, are among the top goal-scoring teams in the First Division (North).
But against the better opposition, Lynn raised their game to a level way above the standard reached at Enderby 48 hours previously.
Andy Eke was brought into the side in place of the injured Trevor Painter. And the your reserve team amateur formed a solid partnership with Nigel Smith, with Kerr and Radcliffe strong in countering Grantham's threat on the wings.
Wright and Brooks always moved up well on the break and in the 16th minute Gardiner went full-length to save Wright's long shot. The Gardiner turner Brook's shot over for a corner, with Brooks again robbed of a goal when his header was cleared off the line.
An eager Grantham attack also had their moments. Shots from Thompson and Norris were deflected wide just before the break. Norris saw Steel make a great save from his close range shot, and from the corner Kerr headed off the line.
A brave run by Wright early in the second half brought him clear to the byline but his low cross somehow evaded Clarke and Lindsay.
Norris again brought the crowd to its feet with a header which Steel tipped on to the bar and from the rebound Eke coolly kicked clear in from of goal.
In the closing minutes Thompson headed in but was given offside, then a good pas by Wright set Lindsay away and after beating a defender his shot was brilliantly palmed away by Gardiner.
