BRAVE Lynn's Trophy dreams were ended for another year as they bowed out to Conference opposition for the second successive season.
The Linnets matched the high-flying Shrimps for effort, but Morecambe's extra class in vital areas of the field eventually pulled them through.
Manager Tony Spearing was disappointed with the outcome, but admitted the better side had won on the day.
Spearing said: "Morecambe are a full-time side and you have to give them credit for the way they played.
"We gave a bad goal away just before the break, but if we d gone in 0-0 at half-time I think we would have had half a chance."
Spearing added: "We matched them in the first period and looked like nicking a goal, but after the break we lacked quality and one or two players let themselves down.
"We didn't disgrace ourselves and can use this as a learning curve to go on."
Victorious Morecambe manager Jim Harvey agreed with Spearing's assessment when he said: "Once we scored I felt very comfortable and although King's Lynn kept coming at us, we really could have added to our lead.
"Lynn were a good side and have some decent players, but that was as well as we have played in recent games and we restricted them to very few chances."
On-loan striker Danny Bloomfield's final game only lasted 13 minutes and once he limped off the field with medial ligament damage to his knee, Matthew Clements looked like Lynn's only source of a goal.
It was Clements who took Morecambe by surprise in the opening minute with a surging run into the box, which was scrambled clear for a corner.
Seconds later, Bloomfield just failed to get his head to a dangerous cross from Adie Hayes and in the ninth minute Zeke Rowe shot weakly at Craig Mawson when he should have done better.
Morecambe finally began to find their feet and in the 31st minute Robbie Talbot's first sniff of goal saw him strike Steve Wilson's right post with a swift turn and shot.
Six minutes later Wayne Anderson conceded a silly free-kick on the edge of the Lynn box and Morecambe took the lead when John Hardiker headed home Adriano Rigoglioso's set piece.
On the stroke of half-time, substitute Lee Hudson forced Mawson into an acrobatic stop with an effort on the edge of the box and that proved to be Lynn's final clear-cut chance.
Morecambe replaced the injured Talbot with Wayne Curtis at the break and the substitute could have helped himself to a hat-trick in the opening 20 minutes of the second period.
He was twice denied by the body of Wilson and on another occasion fluffed his lines in front of goal.
The Shrimps constant pressure did result in a decisive second strike 10 minutes after the restart when, from Ryan-Zico Black's ball, John Norman superbly lobbed Wilson from just inside the box.
Lynn huffed and puffed as they tried to get back into the contest, but had to rely on some desperate defending to keep the score at a respectable level.
Glen Fuff and Simon Dakin were outstanding at the back, while Kevin White and Anderson did themselves proud in midfield.
Seven minutes from time the pace and persistence of Clements took him into the Morecambe penalty area, before a superb tackle from Dave McKearney denied him a consolation goal.
After the game Spearing paid tribute to Lynn's large band of travelling supporters, who out-voiced the home fans for most of the afternoon.
Spearing said: "The fans were absolutely magnificent and backed us to the death. They want to come to places like this every week and it's up to me to get us here."
