THIS was sheer, slaughter, and that it was the SEMI-FINAL of the Norfolk Senior Cup emphasises what a farcical situation had developed in the county competition. Lynn, were never extended. They opened their scoring after eight minutes and went on finding the net with such regularity that many people had doubts about the correct score at the end !Goals became the over-riding interest in this David and Goliath encounter which was almost devoid of the normal entertainment of a closely contested tussle. In fact for the last half an hour the crowd. perhaps without a single exception, concentrated their attentions on Rackley as colleagues did their utmost to "give' him a goal!
Three minutes after the interval Barter became the fourth Lynn forward to score, but it was not until the 80th minute that Rackley added his name to the list by scoring the fourteenth.
It had seemed for some long time that he was to be doomed He fired over. and wide, and twice goalkeeper Fletcher dived to make brilliant saves from him-the best two saves by the visiting goalkeeper.
Fletcher did not get many other chances to distinguish himself with Lynn finding the net so often, but he worked hard and really had little hope of preventing any of the goals.
Two scored by Luke in a 15 minute hat-trick at the start were among the finest I have seen in a. long time. After heading in Lynn's first in eight minutes, LUKE crashed in a shot at lighting speed on receiving a good pass from Johnson who had worked his way past several opponents, and then he left Fletcher I helpless with a rasping drive taken on the volley from a neat lob by Chilleystone.
Three goals in 15 minutes put Lynn well in command and the, goal-rush was suddenly in full swing CHILLEYSTONE made it 4-0 a minute later with a low drive and then between the 22nd and 18th minutes DIXON also completed a first half hat-trick.
After a few promising looking attacks in the opening minutes, during which centre forward Day fired .Just behind a post, Boulton and Paul were mostly on the defensive. They stuck to their task commendably, however. though obviously having little hope of checking the confident goal hungry Linnets.
Luke revelled in his return to the team and just on half time was chiefly responsible for goal No 8. He fired the ball hard across the face of the goal and right back ARMES in trying to clear, hooked the ball into his own net.
Lynn did not ease up on the resumption for within another seven minutes they had scored three more DIXON, BAXTER, and LUKE finding the net to take the score to 11-0.
Rackley was now the only Lynn forward without a goal. Luke and Dixon in particular made openings for him but somehow or another he just could not score.
DIXON ran the ball in after good work by Luke had presented with an easy chance, then centre half Bush who had struggled manfully to hold Dixon' had the misfortune to head into his own net for Lynn's thirteenth.
Finally, in the 80th minute RACKLEY scored. Luke and Dixon schemed the opening and when the inside left fired the ball just in time past the advancing goalkeeper the' crowd gave their biggest cheer of the match.
For the records Lynn scored at an average of a goal every six minutes Luke scored four, Dixon five, Baxter, Chilleyston and Rackley one each and there were two "own goals".
And so Lynn once more have an Easter Monday date at Carrow Road. We must wait to March 5 to know who their opponents will be but it will be great surprise if it is not Norwich Reserves.
