Dereham Town 4 King's Lynn 1
13th May 2011
LYNN'S season came to a disappointing conclusion on Friday as Dereham exacted revenge for their FA Vase defeat earlier in the campaign by lifting the Norfolk Senior Cup.
The Magpies were good value for their victory as they punished some sloppy defending from a weakened Linnets side at Carrow Road.
Danny Beaumont's first half brace and the simplest of tap-ins from Dereham captain 011y Willis put the Magpies firmly in control at the break before Kyle Downes confirmed victory for the Ridgeons League side shortly after the restart.
Jack Defty's 45th goal of the season offered little cheer for the Linnets and their supporters, who finished the season trophyless after such promise of silverware up until a few weeks ago.
Ex-Linnet Shaun Marshall made two pointblank saves to foil his former club either side of the interval.
Joint Linnets boss Gary Setchell admitted Dereham were worthy winners, saying: "The difference on the night was how clinical Dereham were in front of goal compared to ourselves.
"There's no doubting that Dereham deserved to win and were the better side on the night, but I think the final scoreline perhaps flattered them a little bit.
"Shaun Marshall has had one of the games of his life and we created enough chances of our own, even with a scratch side.
"Danny Beaumont has scored two very good goals but the other two we gave Dereham were Sunday morning football."

Youngsters Tom McLeish and Ryan Fryatt were handed a starting place in a new-look Linnets defence, with Dan Buhlemann also returning to the fold with The Walks outfit missing a host of key personnel.
Defty was only inches from converting Jamie Thurlbourne's inswinging free-kick in a bright start by the FA Vase semi-finalists while a trademark Thurlbourne set piece struck the base of Marshall's right post with the goalkeeper well beaten. -
Beaumont curled Dereham in front with a wonderful right-footed effort on the edge of the Lynn penalty area before Dereham skipper Willis doubled Dereham's lead three minutes later, after an awful mix-up between goalkeeper Alex Street and his defence.
Beaumont pounced for his second on 38 minutes following a delightful through ball from Smith and the striker beat the exposed Street with ease.
Willis headed Defty's goal bound flick off his line before Marshall acrobatically denied Defty from close range after a centre from Steve Spriggs.
Downes finally ended any faint prospect of an unlikely Lynn comeback with another tap in on 50 minutes after hesitation between Ryan Fryatt and Street.
Defty connected with Jamie Thurlbourne's cross to finally beat Marshall, whose acrobatics had also denied Luke Thurlbourne soon after the restart, on 66 minutes, but it was merely a consolation for Lynn
