Redditch United 2 King's Lynn 2
14th July 2009
LINNETS boss Carl Heggs declared himself satisfied with his side's pre-season run-out at his former club Redditch on Tuesday night.
A late Francino Francis headed equaliser denied Heggs a debut win as boss after striker Gareth Sheldon had bagged a brace on his Linnets bow.
Heggs said: "It was the first time we had played together as a group and at times we tried to play like Real Madrid. I thought we battered them at times.
"I was disappointed with the first goal we conceded. We didn't clear our lines and then conceded a silly free-kick in the final third of the field.
"But there were still plenty of positives. Gareth scored two goals, Owen (Story) was electrifying, Matt Birley and Callum Lloyd did well in the middle of midfield and Joe Magunda hardly broke sweat."
Jack Byrne handed Redditch a 15th minute lead with a curling free-kick only for Sheldon to net twice before the break, including one from the penalty spot midway through the opening period.
Heggs made seven changes for the second half and Lynn lost their shape a little, but there were still plenty of positives to take from the match.
