Wellingborough 0 King's Lynn 2
15th March 2011
LINNETS joint bosses Kevin Boon and Gary Setchell accused their troops of thinking about the forthcoming FA Vase semi-final before the team gave the management duo the required response, and a brace from leading scorer Jack Defty sealed the points.
Defty's double saw Town pass the 100 league goal mark for the season.
Boon said: "Setch and I were absolutely hurt by the first half performance. When our goalkeeper has to make three or four one-on- one saves, I had to ask them: Were we really at the races?
"We were disgusted by the performance and gave them the biggest rollicking. We said no- one is guaranteed a Vase semi-final place.
"But we got the professional response we wanted in the second half, and Alex (Street) has had just one save to make."
Defty took his tally to 38 for the campaign with a goal in either half as the Linnets overcame an in-form Wellingborough outfit at London Road. The Linnets maintain their second spot six points behind title rivals St Neots, who beat Holbeach 4-2.
Town were forced to play the last few minutes with ten men after Luke Thurlbourne limped off with an ankle injury after the Linnets had used all of their substitutes.
Robbie Harris had a chance before Defty was set up by Steve Spriggs, then in the 64th minute Defty headed home Town's 101st goal of the campaign.
Boon added: "We played some great football and were well-worthy winners in the end.
"We have had three hard away games. We would have loved to got nine points out of nine, but have accepted seven out of nine."
Lynn: Street, Bexfield (Fryatt), Alsop, L. Thurlbourne, Buhlemann, Watson, Spriggs (Bacon), Doherty, Defty, Harris (Ogbonna), J. Thurlbourne. Unused subs: McNeil. Hails.
