Gresley 1 King's Lynn 2
1st February 2004
Delighted Linnets boss Gary Setchell described Saturday's victory at Gresley - Lynn's seventh on their travels in the league - as one of the best displays on the road this season.
A last-minute winner from Jordan Yong maintained Lynn's winning momentum with their fifth straight league success since the turn of the year.
Setchell said: "I think it showed how far we've come because we bossed the game in the first half.
"It was probably one of our best first-half away performances. We could have been 3-0 or 4-0 up at half-time.
"And then we get a real kick in the teeth just after the break (when they equalised) and for ten minutes you think the lads are folding here a little bit.
"But yet again we kicked on, and I thought in the last 20 minutes they were playing from a draw at home and we were trying to get a win away.
"That's exactly what we achieved and it was a tremendous strike by Jordan. I think we deserved all three points and I don't think there's any complaints. If the top four or five keep winning, and the teams below us keep tripping up, then the play-offs will be shaping themselves up.
"We've got ourselves in a fantastic position."
Lynn totally controlled the first period with Steve Spriggs spurning two opportunities to give them an early lead.
Home goalkeeper George Woodward was in fine form between the posts as the Linnets looked to avenge their FA Vase defeat of last season.
A quick break down the right by the lively Spriggs ended with a shot that Woodward did well to palm away before Dunkley managed to bundle the ball into the net.
Dunkley should have doubled Lynn's advantage going into the break before Gresley came out with all guns blazing at the start of the second period.
Eight minutes after the restart, Barrett contested a tackle many would have backed out of and the ball flew into the area to Marc Goodfellow who made no mistake by lashing the ball past Danny Gay.
The Linnets regained their composure after spending long periods of the second half on the back foot.
Just when it looked as though The Walks outfit would have to accept a point for their efforts, Yong surged into the box with a trademark run before smashing the ball past Woodward.
