King's Lynn 2 Dartford 0
16th November 2002
THE Linnets won their second successive league match for only the second time this season at a foggy Walks on Saturday.
Two memorable strikes from David Staff and Jack Defty lifted the gloom in a game Lynn should had won by the break.
Peter Morris' side dominated from the start, but as in so many games this season chances went begging in front of goal and Lynn had to rely on two contenders for goal-of-the-season to see them home.
In the seventh minute Carl Holmes burst through the Dartford defence, but Darts keeper Tony Kessell saved well to prevent Lynn from taking an early advantage.
A minute later David Staff linked up well with Holmes, but his shot crashed against the post with Kessell well beaten.
Holmes then combined with Harris, who was making his home senior debut, but nerves got the better of the youngster in the box.
A rare Dartford attack saw Ted Ansell's header deflected behind for a corner and from the resulting set piece Matt Fagan had a vicious volley acrobatically turned over by Dean Greygoose.
Six minutes later David
Staff was impeded 25 yards out, before he picked himself up to curl home a 25-yard free-kick past the despairing dive of Kessell.
Lynn continued to push forward and Holmes played a delightful chip through to Harris, whose shot was too weak to seriously test the visiting keeper.
Staff and Adam Weston were both foiled by Kessell in quick succession, before Weston drilled a shot wide five minutes before the break.
The conditions deteriorated after the break, but it was still Lynn who held the upper hand, and in the 50th minute a long ball over the top picked out Harris who fired inches wide of the target.
Lynn defender Mark Burrows was denied by the heroics of Kessell, while at the other end Greygoose had to dive full length to his right to save from Fagan.
In the 61st minute Lynn wrapped the game up when Jack
Defty popped up out of the mist to unleash a cracking 30-yard drive past the helpless Kessell.
Defty's strike sparked great celebration, but that was short lived when the linesman on the stand side of the pitch complained about his lack of visibility to the man in the middle.
After consultation with both managers, referee J. Steel allowed the game to continue and Lynn comfortably held on for the three points.
