Wroxham 0 King's Lynn 2
18th January 2011
KING'S Lynn Town booked a semi-final spot in the Norfolk Senior Cup tonight ' but their 2-0 victory may have come at a cost after two of their key players picked up injuries during their quarter-final success at Wroxham.
Midfielder Luke Thurlbourne limped off with an ankle injury and striker Jack Defty was replaced after picking up a hamstring strain to leave the pair doubtful for Saturday's fourth round FA Vase trip to Norton and Stockon Ancients.
Joint Linnets boss Gary Setchell: "I'd say that both Luke and Jack are 50/50 for our trip up north at the weekend and we'll have to monitor both them as the week goes on."
Goals from Pat Bexfield a minute before the break and predator-supreme Robbie Harris 15 minutes from time saw the Linnets record a comfortable victory over the Yachtsmen, who rarely troubled Lynn throughout the tie.
Wroxham's misery was compounded by the late sending-off of Andy Heald for picking up two yellow cards.
A delighted Setchell said: "We knew we had to match Wroxham's aggression for the first 15-20 minutes and once we'd done that I thought we showed a lot of quality.
"Both Danny White and Kieran Doherty were immense and covered so much ground, while Martin McNeil and Dan Buhlemann were superb at the back."
Setchell hit back at Wroxham boss David Batch, who goaded The Walks outfit ahead of the tie.
"I wasn't the manager saying bring on Lynn before they were drawn and lost to St Ives in the FA Vase and I have never said that we are the biggest team in Norfolk and are going to win the Vase.
"David said that we needed to prove ourselves and we've done that by beating his team, who obviously meant business by going for a pre-match meal before the game
"We've now defeated Wroxham, Dereham and Yarmouth twice this season so the UCL as a league and ourselves as a club can't be too bad.
"Considering we're a new team, to still be in four competitions approaching February is no mean feat. As a club we are very proud to be representing the UCL in both the Norfolk Senior Cup and the FA Vase."
