Halesowen Town 0 King's Lynn 0
18th November 1999
LINNETS manager Gary Mills rued the two points lost after seeing his side held for the 10th time this season, at Halesowen on Saturday.
"We should have got three points,' he reflected after his Linnets were denied by a brilliant display from home keeper Danny McDonnell.
"Their keeper played very well. We created a lot of chances and hit the target , but he made some good saves.
"I'm always happy with a point away from home, but it should have been three. It was another good performance," he commented.
The Linnets had begun brightly with Tony Marsden and Lee Wilson prominent in the early stages.
Marsden brought the best out of McDonnell as early as the sixth minute when his rasping shot was brilliantly tipped over the bar by the keeper.
But, at the other end, the Linnets had a lucky let-off when Wayne Lloyd saw his header hit the underside of the bar with Chuck Martini relieved the see the follow-up struck straight at him.
Wilson had a glancing header well held by McDonnell while Marsden again came close with a low drive.
Martini kept Lynn on level terms going into half-time with an acrobatic save to tip Matt Gardiner's long range effort over the bar.
Mark Harbottle was denied by the feet of McDonnell while Martini produced another good save to thwart Adrian Cooper.
Dave Robinson became the next Linnet to be denied by McDonnell at point blank range while Dave Puttnam saw a curling effort brilliantly tipped around the post.
Scott Gerrard should have done better with a free shot which he struck wide of Martini's goal while Lyndon Rowland nearly capped a perfect return to his former club with a shot that went narrowly wide.
Rowland then failed to connect fully with a Puttnam cross with the goal at his mercy while substitute Jon Palmer could have done better with a couple of late chances.
But the Linnets had Dave Robinson to thank for preserving a point in injury time when he superbly blocked Stuart Payne's shot after the Yeltz striker had blocked Martini's clearance and rounded the stranded goalkeeper.
