St Neots Town 2 King's Lynn 1
19th March 2011
TOWN'S long unbeaten run ended with this League Cup defeat at St Neots with a team that showed eight changes from the starting line-up that defeated Wellingborough on Tuesday.
St Neots dominated the opening 20 minutes before Lynn managed to settle and come into the game. Dubi Ogbonna had Lynn's first chance on 26 minutes but shot over, while Robbie Harris and Danny Buhlemann, playing in a new midfield role, also missed half-chances. The early exchanges had seen St Neots go close through Bryn Williams and Tony Scully before former Linnets Glen Fuff fired high and wide from an angled drive.
The half-time introduction of Dan Jacobs by the hosts turned the game. His ball set up Keiran Davies on 58 minutes, who was pulled down by Lynn keeper Hails, and Tony Scully dispatching the resultant penalty.
Any hopes Lynn had of coming back into the game ended on 81 minutes.
Jacobs was once again involved in the move which saw Gavin Strachan, son of TV pundit Gordon, score on his debut. Lynn got a consolation goal deep into injury time when Keiran Doherty's free-kick was knocked on by Chris Bacon for Ryan Fryatt to head home.
