King's Lynn 1 Cambridge City 2
19th October 2013
King's Lynn Town were removed from a national cup competition by Cambridge City for the second time this season, although the margin of defeat was somewhat less than that recorded the previous month.
After knocking the Linnets out ofthe FA Cup with a 5-1 victory back in September, the Lilywhites repeated the dose in the FA Trophy thanks to a double from Adam Marriott. Cambridge City fielded the same starting line-up as they did in the FA Cup match, while Lynn's starting XI included eight of the players who lined up that day.
Lynn were without the injured Rob Duffy, while on-loan duo Jake Jones and Gary Mills were made unavailable by their parent clubs.
the first half after scoring at the second attempt.
Steve Spriggs, Andy Hall, Dan Jacob and Thomson all missed further chances to increase Lynn's lead before Marriott pounced to level matters two minutes before the interval.
Midfielder George Thomson fired the Linnets in front from 20 yards midway through
The Linnets dominated the first 45 minutes, but playing without a recognised front- man because of injury, they only found themselves level going into the break.
There was still time for Marriott to strike the post just before half-time but there was no denying him his second goal eight minutes after the restart.
Marriott spotted Linnets goalkeeper Alex Street well off his line and lobbed him from all of 25 yards, ten yards in from the touchline.
Other than from long- range, Lynn rarely looked like troubling Lilywhites shot-stopper Zac Barrett in the second half.
Marriott should have completed his treble late on but dragged his effort wide of the target. King's Lynn Town: Street, Clarke, Yong, Lee, Fryatt, Bunting (Butt 75), Spriggs, Thomson, Quigley (Stocker 77), Hall, Jacob (E. Clarke 67).
Cambridge City: Barrett, Ramm, Brighton, Lawton, Chaffey, Farrell (Allen 73), Lewis, Beech, Marriott, Bacon (Beasant 34), Dawkin (Prada 73).
