King's Lynn 6 Soham Town 0
19th November 1969
AFTER FUMBLING around for 60 minutes Lynn slammed six goals in 18 minutes to dispose of Soham in the third round of the East Anglian Cup at the Walks on Wednesday.
The Linnets did not seem know what to do with their superiority, because often only Crawford in goal stood between them and a landslide.
In defence they were occasionally troubled by the good understanding between centre-forward Fogg and right-winger Fretwell, but most of the chances fell to Lynn with Jenkins missing a sitter when he headed the ball backwards instead of forwards.
Coughlin was providing a superb midfield service, but Soham broke away and almost scored when Coe pulled off a great save to foil Fretwell.
Fourteen minutes into the second half Lindsay broke the stalemate when he dived forward to head home Clarke's accurate cross, and eight minutes later Coughlin who had been Lynn's midfield motor, came up to score easily from a rebound.
Clarke made the game safe with goals, one with his left foot and one with his head, in the 70th and 82nd minutes, but the best effort came from Coughlin, who crowned his fine display with a 30 yarder that left Crawford motionless.
After 78 minutes Coughlin seemed certain to score his third, but his shot, which looked to be on its way into the net, was touched by Jenkins just to make certain.
