20th April 1992
RICHARD Daynes scored twice and set up two others as Lynn ran Grantham and their Linnets' old boys ragged yesterday at The Walks.
Ex-Lynn captain Ged Creane scored a consolation goal for Grantham. but other former Linnets Lee Rippin and Marcus Newell had poor games. Former Lynn manager Shaughan Farrow was on the Grantham bench
Jackie Gallagher, who had scored earlier in the day for Diss, made a surprise second half substitute appearance for the visitors but it was Daynes and the young Linnets who stole the show.
Lynn got off to a rip-roaring start, scoring with the first real attack of the match after seven minutes. Tim Webster pulled back Richard Daynes' excellent low cross and Chris Watts drove home from ten yards.
The home side continued to look menacing as the half progressed. with Daynes making a number of good runs, and Webster saw a 15th minute shot saved.
With the confidence of a goal behind them. Lynn pushed forward and the Grantham keeper Peter Flares saved well from a Freddie Easthall free kick.
Lynn's second goal came in the 35th minute. the impressive Daynes heading against the bar and Tim Maxwell burying the rebound from close range.
Lynn kept the pressure on right up to half-time and Michael Spank saw a long range shot saved right on the whistle.
Lynn started the second half, in buoyant mood and increased their lead in the 57th minute.
The hard-working Spauls swung in a cross from the right, Daynes' header was saved but the striker followed up to tap in a goal his efforts richly deserved.
Rut Creane signalled his return to the Walks a minute later, rising above the defence to head home Chris Grocock's cross. However, Lynn continued to attack and man of the match Daynes swept home his second in the 75th minute following another good cross by Spauls.
