King's Lynn 3 Great Yarmouth Town 1
20th July 2010
SPEAKING after Tuesday's 3-1 victory over Yarmouth, joint boss Boon revealed that some tough half-time words sparked Lynn's much-improved second half performance.
"I thought we were very disappointing in the first-half in certain defensive areas. "There were a few harsh words said at half-time and the players went out there and put it right, it was nice to see the lads play football." Boon also paid tribute to young Linnets goalkeeper Alex Street, who was again faultless.
"He (Street) is a young 'keeper who has matured into a young man fairly quickly, particularly that save in the 75th minute, having plucked it out the air, he just picked himself up and rolled it out. That's the sign of a very good goalkeeper, he's got a very big future ahead of him."
The Linnets made it four friendly wins on the bounce with this comfortable win over an impressive Great Yarmouth side.
Defender Martin McNeil opened the scoring for Lynn, before the lively Jake Reed levelled matters for Yarmouth.
Scott Cubberley latched on to Jack Defty's inch perfect through-ball to fire Lynn back in front during the closing stages of the first half.
Lynn saved their third and final goal, and the best of the evening, until the 72nd minute when captain Defty rose majestically to head home Ross Kelly's pinpoint centre.
