King's Lynn 1 Stamford 3
20th November 2012
The future is bright for the Linnets if Tuesday night's League Cup defeat is anything to go by.
A young Lynn side, which included a number of youngsters from the club's high-flying reserve team, gave a good account of themselves against a strong Stamford side.
A double from one-time Lynn target Ricky Miller and a third from striking partner Gregg Smith condemned Lynn, who replied through Danny White, to defeat.
Linnets boss Gary Setchell said: "I thought we played some very good football at times, we just lacked a bit of a cutting edge in the final third."
Of the youngsters to show promise, Tom McLeish hardly put a foot wrong at left-back, Chris Ward showed strength at the heart of the defence, while Shaun Stocker, 16, who recently had trials with Peterborough showed some great touches.
The attendance of 201 was the lowest for a competitive home match since 1993, but was still higher than in the night's two EvoStik League games
