Redditch 1 King's Lynn 2
21st February 2009
Jack Defty scored his first league double for more than two years as Lynn notched their first away league win since November 8.
Lynn were 2-0 up after just 12 minutes and were rarely in trouble, and rose to 11th spot to continue their recent improvement.
Lynn boss Keith Webb said: "Considering all that's gone on, the boys acquitted themselves well.
"We're a more solid unit now, and I'm pleased that they've now got the confidence they didn't have before. Confidence is a big thing in football.
"Jack's two goals came from good work from Michael Frew.
"All of a sudden Redditch thought they better make a fist of it, which made it a bit of a battle.
"I'm not saying we were on the back foot, because they didn't have many chances, and we fully deserved to win the game."
For the opening goal on four minutes, Defty played in Michael Frew, who was brought down by Asa Charlton in the home area. The referee pointed to the spot, and Defty comfortably put away the penalty.
The second goal was triggered when Bradley Thomas sent a long ball from the left-back position to the Redditch right-back position by the corner flag.
Julian Joachim beat home goalkeeper Danny Lewis to the ball and Lewis handled outside the area in a bid to prevent the Lynn forward from crossing the ball.
Lewis was somewhat lucky to be given a yellow card. However Lynn took advantage with Frew's free-kick headed home by Defty at the far post.
The only time Lynn looked uncomfortable before half-time was on the half-hour mark when keeper Rob Murray's clearance hit Marvin Robinson, but Thomas cleared the bouncing ball.
Five minutes into the second half Defty and Joachim set up Frew, who was denied by the keeper's feet.
Both Defty, who shot over the bar, and Mark Peters, who headed into the keeper's arms, had chances midway through the second period.
Redditch pulled one back ten minutes from time via a penalty when Thomas brought down Jordan Smith, and Ryan Beswick converted from the spot.
Smith was carried off with shoulder damage following a challenge from Thomas.
But Redditch's cause was sunk when Robinson was dismissed after an off-the-ball elbowing incident with Thomas.
There was just enough time for Joachim to be denied in a one-on-one situation with keeper Lewis.
