Morecambe 0 King's Lynn 0
21st February 1982
AGAINST struggling foot-of-the-table Morecambe, Lynn hardly anticipated having to share the spoils at Christie Park on Sunday.
But the new-look Morecambe team were a good match for the surprised Linnets, who at times were forced to work hard for their NPL point.
Chances were few in 20 hard fought minutes as the sides disputed supremacy in mid-field. But Chapman must have reckoned to put Lynn ahead in the 22nd minute when Watts' inch perfect cross from the right found him clear four yards out.
His unchallenged header was perfectly directed, but Morecambe keeper McKenna was somehow there at full stretch to tip the ball on to a post. Chapman was rightly stunned.
Adams had an even better chance for Lynn 13 minutes later, when Biggins's delightful dummy and centre to the far post left him free, but the mid-field player made a hurried, mis-timed stab to the keeper.
As Morecambe's challenge began to wane on half time, winger Easthall did put the ball in the net, after a scramble from a corner to the near post. But the referee had spotted a push on a defender seconds earlier and disallowed the effort.
John Walsh headed only Morecambe's second real chance of the match into Claxton's arms straight after the re-start and Biggins gave McKenna a slightly harder pick-ii (live. the other end from a low drive.
But there were few further dangerous moments from the two sides and each were grateful for the other's tiredness.
Elliott shot wide twice and the last opportunity for the winner was snatched off Biggins's toes by the home keeper a minute from time.
