Chorley 1 King's Lynn 0
21st September 2013
Linnets boss Gary Setchell was left feeling hard done by after Chorley went top of the league thanks to a 49th minute penalty from Josh Hine.
Setchell was not only angry with the penalty decision itself, which was given after Ryan Clarke had been penalised for shirt pulling, but also at the award of a corner in the build-up to the spot-kick.
An unhappy Setchell said: "I thought we were robbed. I don't normally come out and blame referees, that hasn't been my style during the four years I've been in this job, but I thought the officials were especially poor today.
"If referees are going to give penalties for incidents like that then you're going to see 10 or 12 in a game.
"It wasn't just the penalty decision I was angry with because in the moments leading up to it, it has taken the referee and his assistant six or seven seconds to decide whether to give a corner or not.
"The last two matches I have been left very disappointed with our performances, but today I was happy how we've played but disappointed with the result.
"We should have been going home with a point.
"Today my players have worked their socks off but we've gone home with nothing to show for it."
Tom Baker and James Dean both tested Danny Gay, while Andrew Hall had Lynn's best chance early in the first half.
Chorley's Dale Whitham should have increased the Magpies lead on 66 minutes, when put through by Darren Stephenson, but he missed the ball.
The following minute Dan Jacob bent an effort narrowly wide against the run of play.
Dean saw his header hit the top of the crossbar on 75 minutes while Phil Gulliver saw his header saved late on in Lynn's best chance of the 90 minutes.
Late on, Gay, who was a big doubt for last night's EvoStik League trip to high-flying Ilkeston with an ankle injury, did well to deny Stephenson in a one-on-one.
