Corby Town 0 King's Lynn 2
22nd August 2007
Linnets duo Joe Francis and John Turner both notched
their first British Gas Business League goals as
Lynn finally ended their away hoodoo at Corby.
Before Wednesday night, the Linnets had failed to
register a Southern League win at Corby for 23
years.
But an early strike from Francis set Lynn on their
way before a late Turner effort wrapped up the three
points and a clean sheet for Keith Webb's side.
A delighted Webb said: "It was a great result, in
which everyone played their part.
"We are showing a resilience at this moment in time
which we perhaps didn't have last season.
"I think we have already shown that we're not going
to be a pushover for any side in this league.
"We've got footballers in this team, but we are also
showing fans that we can battle and roll our sleeves
up as well."
Francis opened the scoring in the third minute when
he robbed a home defender before powering forward
and curling a shot past ex-Linnets keeper Dan Crane.
Lynn had to weather some heavy Corby pressure, with
both Mark Warren and Charlie Defty enjoying
magnificent games in the heart of the defence,
before adding their second 11 minutes from time.
Matt Nolan played in Turner, who made no mistake
with his finish.
Both Nolan and Turner wasted other chances to put
Lynn further clear as they dominated the closing
stages.
