Worcester City 3 King's Lynn 1
22nd September 2001
LINNETS manager Tony Spearing was a despondent figure after Lynn's unbeaten away record this season came crashing to a sorry end.
Spearing was visibly upset, slamming a handful of his side after also seeing them surrender their five-match unbeaten run.
A furious Spearing said: "I've just told. three or four of my players that unless they pull their socks up they will be out the door.
"Some people think they can just turn up, put on a shirt and that's all they have to do but they're wrong.
"If I have to change personnel then I will do, although it might have to be over a length of time."
Goalkeeper Steve Wilson, defenders Simon Dakin, Jon Whitney and Glen Fuff and substitute striker Jamie Clarke were the only players to emerge with their reputations undamaged.
Spearing added: "I've never once told a lie to any of my players since becoming manager and that's still the same now.
Five minutes into the half Jason Minett's cross was flicked on by Lee Hudson, but the approaching Fuff just failed to get the all-important touch.
The Linnets replaced the ineffective Hudson with Clarke in the 59th minute, but before he had a chance to impress, Worcester were 2-0 ahead.
Dr Martens Premier leading scorer Mark Owen netted from the spot after Minett had clumsily brought down Darren Middleton.
Five minutes later, Middleton was allowed to waltz through unchallenged past at least four Lynn players to put the home side 3-0 in front.
Lynn finally began to try to play football and in the 75th minute Clarke's flick-on put Rowland in the clear, but the striker screwed wide when he should have hit the target.
Clarke completed an impressive 30 minutes on the pitch by scoring the Walks outfit's consolation when he volleyed past Wyatt from 20 yards.
