King's Lynn 6 Northampton Spencer 0
22nd October 2011
A FEW home truths from manager Gary Setchell sparked the Linnets into life at The Walks on Saturday.
Despite holding a two-goal lead at the break, Setchell was far from happy with his side's urgency before an emphatic second half showing led to Robbie Harris, Stephen Spriggs and Danny Beaumont all registering braces.
Setchell said: "I wasn't very happy first half because we weren't meeting the high standards we set last Saturday. We had players ambling back and they got told off at half-time.
"We came out second half and played how I want us to play, we pressed and some of the football we played in the second half was a different class. We demoralised Northampton Spencer in the end."
Midweek signing Rob Hughes had to be content with a place on the bench, but the former Nottingham Forest trainee did enough when he come on to suggest that he will be more than a useful addition in the weeks ahead.
Predator-supreme Harris opened the scoring in the 12th minute when he slotted home after some precision play involving both Steve Spriggs and Pat Bexfield.
Harris hit the post, but Lynn deservedly doubled their advantage on 38 minutes through Beaumonts sharp turn and finish.
The busy Shorunmu, who enjoyed an inspired afternoon between the posts for the visitors, was beaten for a third time when Harris converted a centre from Spriggs shortly after the restart.
The lively Spriggs added a fourth seven minutes into the second period after some delightful build-up play before Beaumont scored one of the goals of the game with a powerful header following a cross from Jordan Yong.
Spriggs became the third player to bag a brace when he finished with aplomb in the 86th minute.
All three of Lynns two-goal heroes had a chance to complete their trebles during the 90 minutes but the brilliance of Shorunmu and some wayward finishing denied them all.
