King's Lynn 7 Desborough Town 0
23rd April 2011
JACK Defty and Steve Spriggs both hit hat-tricks as the Linnets cruised to victory in the sun but it was the performances of two other players who caught the eye at The Walks.
Midfielder Danny White was back to the form he showed before picking up viral meningitis, while teenage defender Ryan Fryatt gave an assured display at the back.
Joint Linnets boss Gary Setchell said: "After losing to St Neots it would have been easy for us to throw it in.
"We didn't try to overplay. We just passed and moved and reminded our fans that we can pass the ball and we are a good side."
On young Fryatt, Setchell said: "He looked different class.
"He steps out from the back and we have a real good player on our hands.
"We threw on three other young lads during the game and they have all earned the right because that side has won their reserve league."
In weather suited more to a pre-season friendly, Lynn completed the double over Desborough in emphatic style.
Lynn took the lead on nine minutes when some excellent wing play by Spriggs set up Jack Defty for his 41st goal of the season from four yards.
Robbie Harris converted a Jamie Alsop pass to put King's Lynn 2-0 up inside 15 minutes.
Spriggs added a curling shot from the angle of the six yard box for number three as Lynn dominated in the heat.
Four minutes later, Defty added his second of the afternoon from a Harris through ball.
The Walks outfit took the opportunity to give their younger players first team experience after the restart.
Defty completed his hat-trick on 63 minutes when he headed home Jamie Thurlbournes corner.
Steve Spriggs made it 6-0 three minutes later, before sealing his treble fourteen minutes from time.
Linnets goalkeeper Alex Street was a virtual spectator for most of the match but did pull off a fantastic double save from Dan Rogers to deny Desborough a consolation.
