HAD ANYONE ventured to prophesy during the interval of the game between Lynn and Holbeach at the Walks on Wednesday, when Lynn led 3-2, that eight goals would be scored in the second half, and Lynn would get seven of them, the idea would have been laughed at.
Yet such was the glut of goals scored during the second period of the match. It not only brought two very useful points, but with a 10-3 win gave Lynn's goal average a good boost.
FAKENBRIDGE was Lynn's most prolific scorer, with four goals. WELLS also gained a hat-trick, while ROBERTSON claimed two before he had to be assisted off the field in the closing minutes.
The blustering wind, blowing from several directions alternately, made good football difficult, and it was fortunate that Lynn's forwards were on form, for in the first half the visitor's defence showed but few signs of weakness. Sillis save a better display at centre-half, but even so FRENCH managed to elude him twice to bang the ball into the net.
COTTAM scored a third goal for Holbeach from a penalty awarded against Woodhouse for handling.
Robertson's second goal was also scored from a penalty-kick, though the reason for the award appeared obscure. Lynn's other goal was netted by RICH. He took a chance in lobbing back a clearance by Taylor, and the 'keeper was unable to get back to his goal in time to stop the ball.
The wing halves put in a lot of hard work, and it was mainly through their efforts that Lynn won by such a wide margin.
Robertson, as schemer-in-chief, had a very good game till he suffered a recurrence of ankle trouble.
