WERE Lynn robbed by a "fisted" goal in Monday's Southern League Cup third round replay at Corby? The controversy about Corby's first goal in the 11th minute will rage for some time.
In a period of continuous Corny pressure, centre forward Black dispossessed Lynn centre half Porter and worked his way out to the left wing. Suddenly he turned and tired in a high centre towards the far post. McNeil raced in, and the ball thudded into the net.
A header or a fisted goal? The only man who mattered was referee Mr. F. E. Burling of Cambridge. He had no hesitation in pointing to the centre circle.
When Lynn did get on terms, after 36 minutes it was through a defensive blunder by Corby, which allowed RUDD to sail through and easily beat the advancing Alexander.
BLACK scored Corby's second goal in the 53rd minute when he headed in from an accurate corner by McGeorge.
Lynn player-manager Reg Davies came on after 71 minutes replacing McCallum and this was the signal for a great revival, but the Corby defence held on, spurred on by the thoughts of a probable 5,000 gate away to Nuneaton in the next round.
