Bromsgrove Rovers 1 King's Lynn 0
24th January 2006
Lynn's reign of the Southern League Cup ended at Division One West outfit Bromsgrove on Tuesday night.
A goal in the 56th minute from Paul Moore ended the cup holders Linnets interest in the competition after Aaron Benstead and the woodwork had kept the scores level in the first half.
Linnets boss Tommy Taylor said: "The pitch wasn't the best and it was a freezing cold night, but we had our chances.
"They were big and quick and had one or two useful players.
"I think Matty Peters is far better inside than he is on the outside."
Lynn went into the game without Adam Smith (shin), Grant Cooper (head), Matt O'Halloran (flu) and Shaun Carey (calf) before losing Danny Bloomfield when he was unable to shake off an injury received from a tough first half tackle.
The home side carved out the best chance of the first half in the 20th minute.
Matt Johnson's cross was connected with by Smith and fell to Moore, who unleashed a fierce shot that was superbly turned away by Benstead.
Nineteen minutes later, Johnson's free kick hit the bar, while both McMahon and Bloomfield had half chances for Lynn an a cold and icy night at the Victoria Ground.
Eleven minutes into the second half a Rovers corner was neatly hooked home by Moore.
Clarke, in the home goal, matched Benstead's acrobatics when tipping over Sam McMahon's chip in the 65th minute before foiling Jack Defty 14 minutes later.
The Linnets threw on Danny Hammond, but it was Bromsgrove who looked the more likely to increase their lead on the counter attack.
Ben Porter dragged an effort wide for Rovers, while Hillman picked out Benstead when he should have done better.
Lynn's last opportunity fell the way of McMahon 10 minutes from time, but home keeper Clarke was equal to the task and cleared the danger.
