King's Lynn 2 Crawley Town 0
24th January 1998
Craig Hopkins is going to take some shifting now he's earned a regular first team place.
Despite, not having the best of games, he fired home a fine second goal to calm the nerves of home players and fans alike.
Hopkins appears to have cemented a place in midfield for himself and his confidence has certainly gone sky-high as a result.
He said: "It's the most games I've played consecutively since I've been here and that's good for my confidence.
"Also, it's probably the fittest I have been in my time here and I'm just glad I'm being given a run.
"Playing in midfield probably suits me more than playing wing back but I'm happy as long as I'm playing. It was nice to score even though I didn't play very well.
To be fair, Hopkins wasn't the only attack minded player to be off the boil. Neither side created a great deal, Lynn - having just five shots at goal.
The hosts' first effort on target came on 62 minutes, Brett McNamara stroking home a penalty after Lee Hudson had been brought down by Crawley keeper Colin Hunwick.
Simon Mead's mis-hit shot was Lynn's second attempt on target while Hopkin's goal was their third and last.
Martin Matthews 85th minute corner was punched out by Hunwick and Hopkins was first to react, hammering the ball into the top corner from 15 yards.
Lynn had their chances but Tony Spearing, playing his first game of the year, saved James Hollman's blushes when he cleared off the line after he had been caught in no-man's land before the keeper made amends in the closing stages with two stunning saves.
