Moor Green 2 King's Lynn 1
24th October 2000
MORE defensive errors meant Linnets crashed to their third successive defeat in a game littered with free-kicks..
A free header and another howler by Chuck Martini dropped points for Lynn as the Moors were the first side to do the doable over them this season.
Michael Heyde had the first chance in the fifth minute, forcing a low save from Martini, but then Lynn controlled the game for half-an- hour and should have scored.
A Gary Mills free-kick from near the halfway line caught the swirling wind and was tipped over by Andy De Bont.
From the corner by Tommy Wright, Dave Robinson
returning from a one-match ban - brought an excellent diving save by De Bont and Dennis Mulholland cleared off the line.
Then Wright sent over a teasing free-kick and Robinson had another effort blocked by a defender.
The Birmingham side went ahead against the run of play five minutes before the break, the unmarked Stewart Brighton glancing a neat header home from a corner.
This boosted the Moors' confidence and an awful back pass by Emeka Nwadike was intercepted by Craig Woodley, who blazed across goal.
At half-time Lyndon Rowland came on for the ineffective Dave Puttnam and soon made an impact on 64 minutes.
Adie Hayes flicked on, Rowland chested the ball down, cut inside and crashed the ball past De Bont to become Lynn's top scorer of the season with five goals.
But seven minutes later Martini dropped a high swerving cross from Woodley under pressure from two forwards, lost the ball again on the ground and grateful sub David Martin slotted in another early Christmas present from the Lynn defence, whose distribution was poor throughout the night.
This again put Lynn on the back foot, and Mark Crisp and Martin went close while Hayes had a last-gasp chance to level terms, but his header from Wright's cross dipped just over the bar.
