There was a "stocking-full" of goals at Boston on Christmas Eve. In a fast, exciting game, Lynn led 5-3 midway through the second half but Boston snatched two quick goals to draw 5-5. At this season of goodwill few would disagree that a draw was the only fair result.While the exchanges were fast considering the heavy pitch, the football was seldom brilliant but always purposeful. Lynn particularly used the long ball effectively.
Play started at a fast tempo and surprisingly hardly flagged in the second half. After Paul had scrambled away two first-minute Lynn raids he saved well from Dixon.
A quick switch and BOTTOM netted from close range to put Boston ahead within two minutes.
Back came Lynn and after Paul had pushed away a Dixon drive he was beaten after ten minutes by a sizzling shot from JOHNSON.
Lynn looked more dominant at this stage and in the 18th minute DYKES headed a Dixon shot onto the bar but it rebounded into the net.
Five minutes later HUNT equalised when he scored direct from a corner.
Boston's defence fell back and allowed Johnson far too much room and he slipped over a perfect cross for SEWELL to score after 37 minutes.
A minute later Glossop cut in cleverly, beat three defenders and centred for MACHENT to equalise.
Lynn peppered away at the Boston goal in the second half to score their fourth. After shots had hit the post, a Lynn forward, the post again and a defender, CHILLEYSTONE succeeded at the fifth attempt.
Paul leapt to save brilliantly from Chilleystone soon afterwards. Then Lynn broke through again and although Brent stopped a shot from Sewell on the goal-line he could not block the return shot from DIXON (65 minutes).
Three minutes later, in the 68th minute, Boston were back in the fight when BOTTOM stabbed home the ball from close quarters and it was BOTTOM who saved a point for Boston when he completed his hat-trick in the 72nd minute, scoring with a long free kick.
