King's Lynn 3 Northwood 2
25th March 2006
A brief half-time dressing down from manager Tommy
Taylor breathed new life into Lynn's Southern League
promotion push.
Taylor was furious with his side's display in the first
45 minutes after Northwood had levelled Grant Cooper's
opener.
Lynn emerged from the changing rooms some five minutes
earlier than their opponents and Taylor said: "I wasn't
happy with the first half and the players had given me
the right hump.
"I told the players that if they want to throw the game
up the wall then to at least try to pass the ball
properly.
"The crowd were also so quiet when we really needed them
to get behind us."
Taylor's telling-off had the desired effect with Lynn
netting two goals inside the first 11 minutes of the
second period.
The Linnets could even afford the luxury of a missed
penalty from Matty Nolan in the 34th minute, but to be
fair the striker was foiled by a fine save from Rob
Bullivant, who was in great form throughout the 90
minutes, to his right.
Lynn took the lead two minutes later thanks to a cool
finish from Grant Cooper, but their lead was short-lived
when James Shipperley nodded home after Gavin Hart's
shot cannoned back off the underside of the bar.
The Walks outfit were like a side possessed after the
restart and within 14 seconds Matt O'Halloran had
slotted home Nolan's perfect centre.
Ten minutes later Jack Defty fed the ball through to
Nolan, who made it 3-1.
But as usual, the Linnets left their fans on the edge of
their seats for the final few 20 minutes when Dean Clark
netted with an overhead kick.
