Yate Town 1 King's Lynn 2
26th August 2007
A WONDER goal from John Turner and a late winner from Danny Bloomfield gave Lynn their first-ever win at Lodge Road on Saturday after five previous attempts.
Linnets boss Keith Webb said: "I'm well satisfied to win at a place like Yate. It's not the easiest place to go to.
On Turner's goal which broke the deadlock, he added: "The game needed something like that, it was nip and tuck.
"He's doing really well, and I thought he deserved it for his work-rate.
"Once we did score they came out a little bit more. If we had got a second at that point we could've gone and scored a lot more.
"With the effort everyone's putting in, soon we're going to hurt someone.
"They capitalised when we didn't pick up well enough at the back post.
"But Danny did what Danny does best - poaching around the six-yard box. It's good for him to get off the mark."
Due to the heat, there was the unusual sight of the referee ordering a drinks break in each half.
Even more bizarre was a back pass from Adam Smith, on returning to The Walks outfit on loan, being miscued by keeper Scott Howie to hit his hand.
The referee gave Yate a free kick for handling of a back pass on the six-yard line. Fortunately for Lynn, the hosts could not take advantage.
In a pretty-even game, in the first half the home keeper had to fling himself across goal to deny Turner, and Matt Nolan fired over the bar.
Michael Frew cleared off the Lynn line following a corner on 13 minutes.
On 56 minutes Lynn took the lead when Joe Francis set up Turner, who waltzed past almost the whole Yate defence and rounded the keeper before slotting home.
Sloppy defending from Smith and Charlie Defty gave away a throw-in. From this the Bluebells crossed, and Jason Wood (who is on loan from Bath City, who originally signed him from Yate) headed home on 68 minutes.
But on 79 minutes Bloomfield got the winner from a yard out at a goalmouth scramble when Steve Melton's shot hit the bar.
