King's Lynn 6 Swindon Supermarine 1
26th January 2008
THE Linnets notched their biggest league win for three years on Saturday.
The first half was hard work, with it being scoreless for 40 minutes, but once they got into their stride after the break, The Walks outfit cruised to victory, raining attacks at will on the away goal.
Lynn completed their first double of the season with goals from Michael Frew, Jack Defty, and after half-time Joe Francis (2), substitute Matt Nolan and Kieran Deane's first strike for the club.
With Ashley Edenborough the main threat for the visitors, it was even-steven and looking to be a frustrating afternoon for the Linnets until five minutes to go in the first half.
Ben Chapman fed Joe Francis down the left.
He skipped past a defender and his shot was parried by Marine keeper Tom King into the path of Michael Frew who tapped in.
A minute before half-time the visitors levelled out of the blue when Chris Taylor chipped home a lovely shot from the right edge of the area into the far corner of Scott Howie's net.
But 30 seconds later Lynn restored their advantage when Frew set up Dean West to centre for Jack Defty, in his 249th game for the club, who took a neat touch and volleyed past King's right paw in virtually the last kick of the half.
Harsh words at half-time from the Lynn management seemed to do the trick within five minutes of the restart.
With Frew giving left-back Danny Allen a torrid time, his right wing cross was turned home by Francis from a tight angle.
On the hour mark Ben Sedgemore almost caught out King with a 30-yard lob.
Lynn won a penalty on 63 minutes after Jack Defty had been tripped, and Francis confidently slotted into the left-hand corner of the net.
Substitute Matt Nolan got a welcome goal with a simple nod-in when Frew's lob hit the bar.
The sixth and final goal came on 79 minutes as triallist Kieran Deane tried his luck from the right of the box, and it somehow sailed through a sea of legs into the far corner.
Nolan cut the ball back for Dean West to miss a glorious chance, while the Marine's sub Mark Draycott hit the bar and then was smartly denied by Howie in stoppage time.
